Russell Brand and Katy Perry were once deemed the power couple of Hollywood. The pair dated and even got married, which eventually led to their breakup. Brand looked back to the marriage, admitting his fault, and here’s what the artist had to say about the whole situation.
Russell Brand opens up about his marriage to Katy Perry
Russell Brand recently appeared on the Megyn Kelly Show, where the host asked him what he felt about marrying a pop star. He admitted his fault in not managing the whole dynamic well, saying:
“I didn’t handle that marriage very well. I can see in retrospect absolutely what the problem was. In fact, I explained that in the book what it was. It was my fault because I pushed to get married early because I felt inadequate and insecure, and like I wasn’t enough, and that if I was married to her, I would somehow be a better person and more important. And that put her under an unnecessary amount of pressure and strain.
He even called Perry a lovely human and also highlighted how both individuals had different approaches to life. The whole hasty approach to marriage is something he regretted later on.
He also noted how Perry’s stardom and fame eventually affected him mentally and how he felt lonely as a result. The inner crisis is something he also revealed during the whole interview.
Brand later on gushed about how meeting his now wife, Laura Brand, was entirely fated as a result of what happened before. He and Perry started dating in 2009 and got married in 2010.
The 2010s were the era in which Perry’s musical career peaked. She dropped hit singles and albums and rose to be a pop star. Following her success in the music industry, the pair broke up in 2012, leaving Perry devastated emotionally.
She then dated Orlando Bloom, to whom she was married for almost 10 years, but then broke up in 2025. The pop star is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as they made their relationship Instagram official on 6th December 2025.
