The Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke recently got married to musician Christian Lee Hutson. It was quite symbolic, as the couple read their vows on Valentine’s Day. In a recent interview, Hollywood star Ethan Hawke recounted how emotional the moment was for him as her father.
Ethan Hawke has nothing in his vocabulary to describe his daughter’s wedding moment
Speaking at the 2026 TIME100 Gala, Ethan Hawke revealed that the feeling of marrying off his daughter cannot be put into words. He admitted it was hard not to get emotional while walking Maya down the aisle. He stated it is one of the most moving experiences that a parent can have.
“I’ve had a lot of feelings in my life, and walking, and that was one I had no words for what that feels like. I have no vocabulary for that. I felt like I was 13 experiencing life for the first time,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Moreover, he stated that Maya Hawke’s life partner was an “amazing man” and considers himself very lucky to have witnessed the nuptials. “The man she married is an amazing young man, Christian, so I am a very lucky individual,” he said while almost tearing up.
Maya Hawke married Christian Lee Hutson in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends in New York City. As per media reports, Ethan Hawke was seen escorting Maya into St. George’s Episcopal Church and even holding her bouquet. The wedding was also attended by Hawke’s ex-wife, Uma Thurman, along with several of her Stranger Things co-stars.
“Whenever you see your children so happy, it’s probably the most moving thing you could see,” Hawke told Page Six at the same event.
Reportedly, Maya and Christian were friends for years before they started dating. They went public with their romance in 2023, before eventually marrying in 2026. “I feel so lucky to have found my best friend and to have someone I can tell anything to,” Maya Hawke said to the same outlet after her marriage.
“It makes something like getting married feel like, ‘Oh, of course.’ … I’m very, very, very lucky, so I’m really happy,” she further added.
Meanwhile, for Ethan, it wasn’t just a proud father moment, but a deeply personal and transformative experience.
