Lucasfilm and Disney just made sure that May 4 this year is not just another excuse to rewatch Star Wars: A New Hope in your living room. Ahead of the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the production company is rewarding its fans with a special screening event in collaboration with IMAX Corporation, showcasing unreleased bits of the movie. Read on to know the full tea!
Fans attending the IMAX events will get over 25 minutes of exclusive footage
Lucasfilm recently confirmed it will host exclusive events for The Mandalorian & Grogu at selected IMAX theaters across the world on Star Wars Day, May 4. Each event will feature over 25 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage, a brand-new limited edition mini-poster, and a few extra surprises the studio is keeping mum about for now.
Screenings begin at 7:00 PM local time with no pre-show content. It means they are getting straight to the point. The footage making the cut is expected to include everything previewed at CinemaCon last week, potentially alongside a behind-the-scenes reel. Jon Favreau told the CinemaCon crowd, “Star Wars made me fall in love with movies.”
His statement is about as clean a reason as any to bring the franchise back to theaters for the first time since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. The Mandalorian & Grogu marks the first Star Wars theatrical release in seven years and the first time Grogu, otherwise known to the entire internet as Baby Yoda, has appeared on the big screen.
Directed by Favreau, the film stems from a script he co-wrote with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, with Filoni having recently been upped to president and chief creative officer of Lucasfilm following Kathleen Kennedy’s departure. Pedro Pascal leads the cast as Din Djarin, with Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt, and Martin Scorsese lends his voice to an Ardennian shopkeeper, which is a sentence that needed a moment to land. Ludwig Göransson, who scored the original series, returns to compose the film. Tickets for the May 4 fan events are available now through Fandango. The Mandalorian and Grogu open exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.
