The Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler on why she left Hollywood

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who is famous for playing the role of Meadow Soprano in HBO’s hit 90s show The Sopranos, recently opened up about the real reason why she chose to leave Hollywood to move to Texas.

In an interview with US Weekly, she told the media outlet about her struggle with MS, saying, “We needed a change. When I moved here, I started using a cane once in a while because I didn’t feel like I was being watched.”

Sigler was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 20. It was at this time that she was still filming The Sopranos, but slowly the condition took a toll on her.

She revealed how she was initially paralyzed from the waist down and how she initially thought it was Lyme’s disease. It was only later on that it was confirmed that she showed symptoms of MS.

The actress was discreet about her health condition and even kept her condition a secret for almost 15 years. It is only recently that she took to the public to actually talk about how it affected her.

When asked by US Weekly if keeping her condition took a toll on her, she replied, saying, “I was always acting. I had no idea what authenticity felt like. Everything was a lie and for show. I didn’t even know who I was. All these secrets had piled up, and I was suffocating. I was constantly in fight-or-flight and survival mode. I’m sure that it contributed to a lot of the flare-ups I experienced.

Sigler wrote about her struggle with MS, her experience with loss and stardom in her new book, And So It Is. She also previously worked on her memoir titled Wise Girl: What I’ve Learned About Life, Love, and Loss.

As of now, Sigler is all set to star in HBO’s TV show Ramble On.
