Antoine Fuqua’s movie Michael is aiming big, and it sure looks more than promising. The movie, starring Jaafar Jackson, is making waves on the internet and has also had some great reviews from the audience. Despite the critics’ score, it is set to overtake Oppenheimer, and here’s what we know so far!

Michael set to overshadow Oppenheimer this weekend

As reported by Global Box Office on X, Michael creators are setting their eyes on the prize. While Oppenheimer made 82 million dollars in its highest-grossing opening, Fuqua’s film is estimated to go around $85-$105M.

The film will release this week, and by the weekend, people are expecting it to go over and beyond at the box office. Its production budget alone is estimated at $170 million, and here’s where it gets interesting.

All the costumes for this movie were handcrafted to bring out authenticity, and it elevates the allure of the movie. From MJ’s Motown Glove to the infamous red jacket from ‘Beat It’, costume designer Marci Rodgers replicated everything and did it so meticulously.

Ever since the trailer for the movie was released, it has had fans go all gaga on the internet, and rightly so. Most fans showed up to the LA and Berlin premiere donning MJ’s iconic outfits.

They paid their tribute to the late star, and while the biopic has had its fair share of controversy, it is bound to make it big. The movie scored low on Rotten Tomatoes with an average score of 34%, and while most fans find it disappointing, there’s one thing we know.

More often than not, critics’ scores are outnumbered by viewers’ and fans’ reviews. Time and time again, the audience has actively thwarted critics’ opinions, and this time, netizens mostly dismissed it.

Besides that, most people are of the view that Michael will overtake Oppenheimer’s opening record to pave the way to become Movie of the Year. Who knows? It might actually happen.

Amidst the controversy and feuds, Fuqua’s biopic about the late King of Pop has reunited fans, both old and young, in a never-before-seen event.

Michael is slated for release on 24th April 2026.
