It was recently announced that production on A24 and Bandai Namco‘s live-action film based on Elden Ring has begun. According to recent reports, the adaptation includes a number of actors in its cast, as well as an expected release date set at March 3, 2028. Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, and Ben Whishaw lead the cast of the adaptation; however, their roles remain unrevealed to this day.
Alex Garland directs the adaptation alongside a number of famous faces
The director of the live-action adaptation is the screenwriter of Ex Machina and Civil War, Alex Garland. As a person who loves video games, he has already played through the Elden Ring several times and wrote a 160-page script, which was later approved by FromSoftware’s people directly in Japan. This shows that Garland plans to emphasize the tone and atmosphere of the game.
Among other cast members, there are such renowned actors as Nick Offerman, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Burke, Sonoya Mizuno, Havana Rose Liu, Ruby Cruz, and Peter Serafinowicz. With the help of the main actors, the adaptation will try to bring to life the game, which uses a very interesting technique in which the plot is split into small fragments.
Consulting producer for this project is Hidetaka Miyazaki. He tries to stay faithful to the world that was created in the game, paying special attention to its visual appearance. The film also uses the myths of George R. R. Martin, who contributed to creating the world of the Lands Between.
At the moment, production has been transferred to Iceland, where locations will be chosen that resemble Limgrave and Caelid. Furthermore, it should be noted that filming is carried out in IMAX.
Production company DNA Films is also developing the film adaptation along with A24 and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
