Sometimes we find life’s best companions in fluffers, and that happens to be the case with Kara. Supergirl and her dog Krypto share an adorable bond, but it also happens to be one of the highlights of the upcoming movie. Milly Alcock spilled the beans on this relationship, and here’s what makes it so special!
Milly Alcock on Kara and Krypto’s bond in Supergirl
Milly Alcock had a fascinating conversation with Nikki Novak, a correspondent from Rotten Tomatoes. They discussed the upcoming movie, but most importantly, how Kara and Krypto’s bond shapes storytelling in the movie:
She’s lost not only the physical world that she grew up in, but also, like everybody who is a part of that. And I think that emotionally, she’s feeling very stranded, and they kind of find each other by chance in a very vulnerable, pivotal moment in her life. So she’s his entire world. He is the only thing that matters.
Kara Zor-el in the Supergirl movie is quite different from Kara from the CBS TV series. The lead character is journeying across the planets and even partying, which might seem unbecoming of her character to some fans.
It might not even sit well with some fans, but it holds a deep-rooted emotion. Kara tries to cope with grief, loss, and sadness through deflection, and in her journey, the only person she feels closest to is Krypto.
Her bond with Krypto is beyond endearing and adorable. The dog represents the closest thing to home, which she seems to have lost, so to finally rediscover herself, Krypto becomes a fragment of what she can truly call home.
Besides that, she witnesses the deaths of her loved ones alongside her planet’s destruction. Her trajectory is quite different from Kara Zor-el in Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist. Benoist’s version is a rather calm, collected, curious, yet adaptable and optimistic version.
Here, in the 2026 movie, we see Supergirl at her most unhinged self as she joins forces with Ruthye Marye Knoll. She finds her purpose and sets out on a quest to save her allies from potential threats.
Supergirl is slated for release on 26th June 2026.
