The popular Amazon series The Boys Season 5 premiered on April 8, 2026, with two episodes. Following the premiere, the show adopted a weekly release format, with Episode 3 releasing on April 15. In a recent interview, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that the episode explores some disturbing aspirations of Homelander, which mirror real life.

Homelander’s god complex being replicated in US politics, says Eric Kripke

In episode 3, Homelander hallucinates about Madelyn Stillwell, his former handler, who tells him he is destined to ascend and act like a divine figure, essentially pushing him towards more violence and absolute control. The visions fuel his god complex, and Kripke draws parallels with the rhetoric stemming from the current US dispensation.

The show is a satire on politics, power, and celebrity culture, but Kripke finds it “unsettling” that the reality is catching up to the show’s extremes.

“You know, tomorrow’s episode is a perfect example. The talk about attacking the pope and presenting yourself as a God as we’re about to release an episode where Homelander thinks he’s God. I don’t know what to say about it. It’s upsetting,” he stated.

Kripke noted how the President of the United States’ rhetoric about power, authority, and even attacking religious institutions mirrors Homelander’s journey of narcissism and control in the series.

Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Starr, who plays Homelander, claimed that his character was “too broken” and “damaged” to be happy.

Season 5 unfolds in the wake of the previous installment, as Homelander tightens his grip on both political power and public perception. In response, Starlight steps up to rally opposition against his growing dominance. Meanwhile, with The Boys splintered and struggling to stay united, Billy Butcher reemerges with a calculated plan, one that involves deploying a deadly virus capable of eradicating all Supes.

So far, there have also been major deaths in The Boys season 5, which includes the tragic death of speedster A-Train, along with the demise of Love Sausage, Jetstreak, Maverick, and Cindy. The Boys, season 5, episode 4, will release on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. So, stay tuned for more twists and turns in the narrative as Homelander gains more power, and his thirst for control becomes insatiable.
