HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series has everyone mystified for the most part. The visuals, the characters, and most importantly, the sets are stellar. Even John Lithgow vouched for it, and the actor was all praises for the filming locations.

John Lithgow gushes about Harry Potter sets

John Lithgow, who is all geared up to play Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter series, appeared on the Today show. He spoke about transitioning into his character, the process, and most importantly, the sets, which had him all baffled and awestruck.

“You cannot even imagine,” “They have created Hogwarts up there in Leavesden Studios. A lot of it is left over from the movie days, but they have just brilliantly expanded, created a world. And to enter into that world, it’s kind of breathtaking.”

More often than not, production design teams do not get enough acknowledgement for the sheer labor they do. Be it sets, backgrounds, and added landscape, it takes a lot to recreate the same amount of intensity and energy to align with the Director’s vision.

We all know that the Harry Potter movies’ set was grandiose, even more so, marvelous. Leavesden studio is where they filmed the majority of the scenes, be it Diagon Alley, the Yule Ball, and most notably, the Quidditch scenes.

Those dining hall scenes, as well as the hallways, were basically the courtesy of cathedrals that added to the Gothic charm, mystery, and mystifying nature of Hogwarts.

It is but natural for the sets not to be the same, considering the years spent filming those movies. The fact that the team itself worked on recreating the sets afresh is a commendable thing in itself.

Not only that, but Holly Waddington is the costume designer for the series. She previously worked on Yorgos Lanthimos’ Academy Award-winning film Poor Things, starring Emma Stone.

Rest assured, the series manages to capture the essence and the authenticity of the book quite well. From sets to costumes, the series is on point with the themes, and it surely brings out awe among most readers by being utterly truthful and faithful to the books.

HBO’s Harry Potter is slated for release on 25th December 2026.
