Doctor Strange’s role is bound to be critical in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, given the events that have unfolded in the franchise’s latest installments. He’s currently in the middle of fixing the incursions caused by his actions, with the help of Clea. Marvel insider Alex Perez recently echoed everyone’s expectations for an epic storyline, teasing that Doc’s role may stand out from other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, he believes the Benedict Cumberbatch character is heading for a redemption arc.
Perez teases a glow-up storyline for Doctor Strange
The Russo Brothers are gearing up to deliver two action-packed Avengers installments, focusing on the developments in the already heating Multiverse saga. While Avengers: Doomsday will have superheroes line up against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will explore the creation of Battleworld and Doctor Strange’s role in restoring the fractured multiverses once and for all.
When asked about the character’s future after both movies, Perez shared a promising update.
“The way Secret Wars sets him up will definitely put him in an interesting position that very few characters in the MCU have been in,” Perez replied. “It’ll be an interesting redemption arc for sure.”
His words make sense, as Strange was the one who opened the multiverse portal and caused the incursions in the first place. Fixing the mess that put the future of multiple worlds online has to be the biggest redemption moment Cumberbatch’s character could get in the coming years. Additionally, Perez was asked about Karl Mordo’s return and whether the Secret Wars would bring Nightmare into the mix. Perez greenlit Mordo’s comeback but remained clueless about the arrival of the other villain in question.
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has rescheduled the release date of Avengers: Doomsday from May 1 to December 18 this year. Similarly, the company also pushed back the release date of Avengers: Secret Wars. It will now hit theaters on December 17, 2027, against the original timeline of May 7, 2027.
Sources have revealed that Doomsday and Secret Wars are two of Marvel’s biggest projects in recent years. After all, it’s Downey Jr’s epic comeback, though in a different suit and with a sinister agenda. Anyway, insiders revealed the company doesn’t want to rush things, and these delays have actually helped the production process. Shooting for Doomsday is underway, while Secret Wars remains in pre-production.
With Secret Wars set to serve as the concluding chapter for Phase Six, all eyes remain on Doctor Strange and his role to shine in one of the most important moments.
