Alex Russo and Harper Finkle are finally getting their reunion, and the internet is not even slightly calm about it. Disney confirmed that Jennifer Stone will reprise her role as Harper Finkle, the eccentric non-magical best friend of Selena Gomez‘s beloved Alex Russo, in the third and final season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

The announcement dropped on April 17 with Disney Channel simply posting, “Guess who’s back?” alongside a photo of Stone and Gomez together on set, and fans collectively lost it. Stone is the latest original cast member to make the trip back to the Russo family’s world, joining Gregg Sulkin as Mason Greyback and Maria Canals-Barrera as Theresa Russo.
She played Harper across all 106 episodes of the original series and will now be there to see it close for good. What makes this one hit a little differently is the journey Stone took to get here.
After Wizards of Waverly Place wrapped, she stepped away from acting entirely to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and then went on to work as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This will actually mark her first credited onscreen role since 2019, which means the reunion fans have been waiting over a decade for is also a full-circle comeback moment for Stone herself.
As for what the final chapter actually looks like, season two ended on a cliffhanger with Alex sacrificing herself by jumping into a portal with the villain Lord Morsus and sealing it from the other side.
The four-part finale picks up with Billie discovering the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father, with the entire Russo family having to combine their powers to defeat the evil closing in on them.
Gomez is not just returning as Alex either. She is also set to make her directorial debut, helming the premiere episode of the final season alongside her role as executive producer, making this the most personal chapter of the franchise she has ever been part of.
The final season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premieres this summer on Disney+ and Disney Channel.
