Joe Rogan has once again made it clear that he has no interest in seeing J.K. Rowling silenced by her critics. According to the podcast host, the backlash against the Harry Potter author has gone too far, and staying quiet while she faces Hollywood’s hate would not feel right.
Joe Rogan says the attacks on J.K. Rowling are ‘insane’
Speaking about the ongoing controversy on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan said the attempt to cancel the author is a mistake. He explained that many people attacking her haven’t actually read what she wrote.
“I’ve been watching this thing with J.K. Rowling, and it’s just insane,” Rogan explained. He added that the intensity of the hate from the industry makes the situation even more lopsided. “Do you want to live in a world where you can’t even have an opinion? The answer is no.”
For Rogan, the situation is inseparable from the broader culture of “cancel culture” in entertainment.
He has repeatedly said he has no interest in seeing artists or writers deplatformed for having views that go against the grain. In his view, any version of a society that doesn’t allow for these kinds of difficult conversations would simply fall short.
Rogan has also become more outspoken about protecting free speech for creators. He reportedly sees Rowling’s refusal to back down as a rare example of someone standing their ground against massive public pressure.
Recently, Rogan joked that his answer to people demanding he stop defending controversial figures is to just keep talking for three hours a day.
Despite the humor, he said he truly believes that too many modern celebrities ruin their own integrity by apologizing for things they don’t actually regret.
“She’s not saying anything that’s even that crazy,” Rogan said. “She’s just saying things that people don’t want to hear. She got crucified for being logical and reasonable and telling the truth and trying to protect women.“
Instead, Rogan believes that the legacy of the Harry Potter series remains the perfect example of why the author’s voice still matters to millions of fans around the world.
Although he doesn’t agree with every point made, Rogan has continued supporting the right to speak in other ways. He sees his podcast as a companion to the books and films that people love rather than a replacement for them.
Rogan is also reportedly working on a new retrospective project about the history of free speech in media, which is expected to be released in 2026 and look back at the making and legacy of the modern cultural landscape.
