The Social Reckoning made a strong first impression at CinemaCon with a tense teaser featuring Jeremy Strong as an older, more hardened version of Mark Zuckerberg. The footage introduces a high-stakes courtroom setting and signals a darker tone compared to The Social Network. One line in particular stood out, with Strong’s Zuckerberg snapping, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore!”

Most of the teaser is focused on the 2021 Facebook whistleblower scandal, as the plot will revolve around the struggle between the company and its responsibility to its users. Strong’s Zuckerberg rehearses for his congressional testimony, giving all the answers in a cold and precise manner and referring to himself as a “professional defendant.”
At one point, Zuckerberg’s appearance becomes especially emotional when he gets into a quarrel with Bill Burr’s character. It is precisely this scene in which he loses his cool and says a famous quote about no longer being the same founder.
The teaser also introduces characters associated with real-life events. Thus, the whistleblower Frances Haugen is represented by Mikey Madison, while Jeremy Allen White appears as the journalist whose exposure led to the leaks.
Aaron Sorkin is both the author and director of this film, which can be seen as a sequel to The Social Network. However, the plot will take a slightly different direction, turning to the problem of power and control instead of creation and ambition.
The cast also features Wunmi Mosaku among other actors. This project is based on the work of Jeff Horwitz. The film takes place during the 2021 hearings and leaks on Facebook.
Given its expected premiere on October 9, 2026, as well as Strong’s impressive performance and the author’s choice of topic, it is safe to say that it will become one of the most promising movies in terms of awards.
