Scarlett Johansson has once again made it clear that she has no interest in being the most liked person in her house. According to the actress, the job of a parent is not about winning a popularity contest with her kids, and trying to be the “cool” one all the time would not feel right.

Scarlett Johansson says parenthood is not about popularity

Speaking about the daily reality of raising children, Johansson said her role as a parent was never meant to be about being the favorite.

As a parent, you know, you’re not always the most popular. And that’s okay,” Johansson explained. She added that once she realized she didn’t need to be liked every single second, it made the job easier to handle. “It’s not about popularity as a parent.

For Johansson, the role is inseparable from the messy reality of making mistakes and just trying to get through the day.

She has repeatedly said she has no interest in pretending to be a perfect mother or acting like she has all the answers. In her view, any parent who thinks they are doing it perfectly every day would simply fall short of the truth.

Johansson has also become more outspoken about what actually defines a win in her household. She reportedly follows a specific rule of thumb that prevents her from feeling like a failure when things aren’t going smoothly.

Recently, Johansson joked that her answer to what counts as success is just hitting a passing grade. Despite the humor, she said she truly believes that too many modern parents ruin their lives by trying to be perfect every single day. Instead, Johansson believes that hitting that 75% mark remains the perfect goal for her and her family.

If you’re successful as a parent, like 75% of the time, like, that’s good,” Johansson said. “If you’re, you know, doing 75% of it, like right or whatever, that’s, then you’re winning, which is probably true.”

Although she is busy with major film projects, Johansson has continued focusing on her life as a mom in other ways. She sees her time at home as a companion to her career rather than a replacement.

Johansson is also reportedly working on a new retrospective project titled Motherhood, which is expected to be released in 2026 and look back at the making and legacy of her family life.
