The Boys’ Season 5 is here with its first two episodes. This has everyone anticipating what’s to come in the future episodes. It also concerns an interesting yet iconic character, Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward. The actress shared her 50 cents on why her character isn’t flinching at all!
Susan Heyward on Sage’s undaunting self
Susan Heyward sat down for a conversation with Screenrant alongside her co-star Colby Minifie. The actress shared her thoughts on why Sage isn’t afraid of Homlander, and she said:
“When we find her at the beginning of Season 4, she’s kind of signed off of life, signed off of risk, so she kind of has nothing to lose. She’s finally in the game of… Game of Thrones. Not quite thrones, but the game of power, and she has absolutely nothing to lose; worst comes to worst, he lasers her head.”
This is a reference to a scene in season 4 when The Homelander visits Sage and asks her to join her. She’s undaunting and at one point even tells him that he can laser her for all she cares.
Sage isn’t arrogant for the sake of it; she wears her knowledge, intelligence, and her knowing with pride. This is precisely what makes her such an interesting yet complex character.
She isn’t one to break in the face of power, and like Heyward points out, she views The Homelander as yet another megalomaniac. This is also true when her character blatantly criticizes him, and we cannot help but remain awestruck.
Minifie plays the role of Ashley Barrett, who somewhat acts as a mediating force. Barett, throughout the series, tries to come to terms with her reality and also seeks out Sage. Her actions also involve helping Sage, mainly because she acknowledges Sage’s unrelenting strength in the face of a megalomaniac, as Heyward calls it.
So if she were to get ‘lasered,’ she would accept it mainly because she is detached. This is what makes her a dangerous character because mostly she is unfazed, she is daunting in her strength and character, and also because she presents no vulnerabilities.
The Boys Season 5 is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
