Karl Urban has set his sights high with his upcoming projects. The Boys actor is eyeing the lead role in Red Dead Redemption, and he’s not at all shying away from it. Here’s what the star had to say about his love for the game.
Karl Urban pitches himself for Red Dead Redemption
When asked by Square Mile what other video game adaptations he would like to be a part of, Karl Urban immediately said Red Dead Redemption, and he had quite a fascinating answer for that.
When consoles came out in 1994, I was an unemployed actor living in Sydney. I couldn’t afford them. By the time I could, I was so busy working on various projects that I was never able to get into it. When I did get the opportunity, Red Dead was one of the games that spoke to me.”
He was asked what role he would play, and without a second thought, the actor said he would play the role of John Marston. It is also Urban’s favorite character, as he revealed in the same interview.
John Marston is one of the main characters in the Red Dead games developed by Rockstar Games. It follows gang wars and a zombie apocalypse, all set in the fictional world of the Wild West. We got cowboys, families, and a ruin which must be prevented by the protagonist. It is one of the best-selling games by Rockstar Games and is hailed for it’s powerpacked action and graphics. But this isn’t a first for Karl Urban.
The actor is all geared up for his upcoming film Mortal Kombat II. He will play the role of Johnny Cage. It is based on the video game of the same name.
Besides that, the actor has previously lent his voice for Ark: The Animated Series and also for the Ark games. He also played the role of Doomguy in the 2005 film Doom, based on the game of the same name.
All in all, it would be interesting to see how the Red Dead Redemption pitch would play out!
