Scott Mills is a British TV show host, commentator, DJ, and radio jockey. He hosted the Scott Mills show on Radio 1, but of late, things aren’t faring well for the radio presenter. A recent episode of Celebrity Bake Off featuring Mills was scrapped, and here’s why.
Channel 4 scraps Scott Mills’ Celebrity Bakeoff episode
A Channel 4 representative spoke to Variety about axing the episode because it features Mills. He addressed the accusations and allegations made against the radio host, saying, “Acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations that have been made against Scott, we don’t believe it would be appropriate to air the episode at this time. An alternative episode of ‘Celebrity GBBO’ will go out in its place.”
To give context, Mills faced serious charges of SA against a boy in 2018. The reports stated that the incidents took place between 1997 and 2000, and during that time, the radio host was in his twenties.
The case was subsequently closed in 2019 due to insufficient evidence, but was reopened later on. As of March, the case has been reopened, and the BBC was informed of the misconduct. What followed was the BBC dropping Mills from their firm and sacking him eventually.
One of the spokespersons said in a statement, “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”
The Sun also reported that while the BBC knew about the allegations, they did not sack him immediately. Rather, they chose to keep him on air, and it was only recently that the organization decided to axe the host from the company.
Conversely, the BBC isn’t the only organization to deplatform Mills. Following the abuse allegations, Neuroblastoma UK dropped the radio host and removed him from the association. Mills was a sponsor and a patron of this organization. He was also removed from the Boyzone concerts, which are scheduled to take place at Emirates Stadium this summer. He was supposed to play his set as a DJ at the concerts.
The radio host hasn’t responded to Channel 4’s pulling of the Celebrity Bake Off episode as of yet.
