After months of speculation and a casting search that kept fans guessing, Matt Reeves finally has his Harvey Dent. Sebastian Stan has officially joined The Batman: Part II as the idealistic Gotham District Attorney, and honestly, the internet had a field day the moment the news dropped.

Sebastian Stan confirmed as Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II ahead of a May 2026 production start

Stan’s casting was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter in January, putting an end to the swirling rumors that had followed him since he was first reported to be in talks earlier that month.

The role had been one of the most anticipated casting announcements surrounding the sequel, with fans long debating who could bring the dual nature of Harvey Dent and his eventual transformation into Two-Face to life in Reeves’ grounded, noir-drenched version of Gotham.

As the plot shapes up, the sequel is expected to follow an uneasy alliance between Dent, Commissioner James Gordon, and Batman as they work to dismantle a serial killer and the city’s deeply entrenched criminal organizations.

Colin Farrell confirmed the script was something special, telling the press that Reeves had delivered in a big way.

Given how carefully the first film handled Paul Dano’s Riddler and Farrell’s own Penguin, the promise of a fully realized Harvey Dent arc is exactly what fans have been holding out for.

Stan is best known for playing Bucky Barnes across the Marvel Cinematic Universe but earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice, which made it clear he has the dramatic range this kind of role demands. Harvey Dent is not a simple villain.

He is a man the city believed in before Gotham broke him, and that complexity is precisely what makes Stan’s casting feel so right.

Scarlett Johansson also joins the cast in a role that has not been officially revealed, though fan theories have widely pointed to Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, which would put the Dent family squarely at the center of the story. Returning alongside Pattinson are Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Barry Keoghan as the Joker.

Notably, Zoë Kravitz is not expected to return as Selina Kyle.

Reeves is directing from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin. Filming is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2026 across locations in London, Liverpool, and Glasgow. The Batman: Part II is set for release on October 1, 2027.
