It is public knowledge that FRIENDS remains one of the most iconic and popular American sitcoms to this date. The show served looks, fashionable outfits, and most of all, slapstick humor. Humor, which probably won’t fit in with this day and age, is something Lisa Kudrow agrees on. The actress gave her 50 cents on new age sitcoms, and here’s what we know.

Lisa Kudrow shares her take on new-age sitcoms

Lisa Kudrow spoke to Interview Magazine about her show Comeback and how it’s nearing its finale. She was asked whether sitcoms are dying or evolving, to which she said, “I’m not drawn to new sitcoms that are multi-camera in front of an audience because I’m not buying it. I think we need to get back to being able to tell jokes. I feel like we’ve been too afraid to make jokes that might make people uncomfortable.

Kudrow didn’t delve deep into the uncomfortable aspect of it, though netizens remained divided regarding this stance. Some speculated that her thoughts were directly referencing wokeism, while others reprimanded the stance altogether.

It is true that the comedy shows, be it Seinfeld, Friends, or 30 Rock, that once stayed popular, might not age well for some viewers. F.R.I.E.N.D.S., being one of the cult classic shows of the 90s, was no different. While the show garnered popularity and a cherished fanbase, it did receive criticism. Kudrow portrayed a laidback yet witty and quirky Phoebe Buffay, who stole the show with her demeanor.

Her comedic timing was spot-on, coupled with her boho chic aesthetic that flooded Pinterest boards. Not to mention, her iconic cat anthem Smelly Cat that stays with most Cat Lovers as a catchy song, which is downright hilarious, so to speak.

Kudrow is all set to feature in the final season of the show, The Comeback. It is a satirical take on the filmmaking space and follows the journey of Valerie Cherish, who navigates herself in the world of vanity and fame. She is a B-list actress who tries to carve her niche in an industry that reflects ageism and, most recently, the advent of AI.
