A24 announced in May 2025 that they would be working on a live-action movie based on one of the best-selling action RPGs, Elden Ring. There’s a new update on the upcoming film, and here’s everything we know so far!
Elden Ring live-action commences pre-production
By now, A24 is officially working on the Elden Ring movie, but a new update confirms the film’s pre-production status. A video on TikTok went viral after it showed the sets of the Church of Marika.
This was posted by THROXTV on their TikTok channel, and they did not provide any context, location, or any such details, as some sources suggest.
Jordan Ruimy from World of Reel confirmed the news that the filming for the movie starts next week. He wrote in his blog, “Word this morning was that sets are being built, which led me to inquire about the status of production — I’m told cameras are supposed to start rolling on ‘Elden Ring’ next week.”
Alex Garland is at the helm of the upcoming live-action film. He is not only a critically acclaimed Director but an eminent writer who has worked in both video games and films. For Garland, this film isn’t just a mere live-action but a passion project. He is an avid gamer who did his seventh playthrough as revealed in an interview with IGN in 2025. “I’m now on my seventh playthrough of that game. I’ve leveled up, I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again.”
Some of his noteworthy films are Ex Machina, Annihilation, 28 Days Later, and Civil War. Garland also worked on video games such as Devil May Cry as a story supervisor and on Enslaved: Odyssey to the West as a co-writer.
Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny are reportedly in talks to join the movie in lead roles. Alex Garland will also co-produce the live-action with George R.R Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki.
The film is scheduled for release in 2027.
