Brian Cox is one of the most esteemed actors who is celebrated in Hollywood for their finesse and craftsmanship. He has acted across various genres, be it films, TV shows, or even voice acting. The Succession actor also isn’t one to shy away from expressing his honest opinions, and this time, he took a dig at Quentin Tarantino.
Brian Cox’s not-so-subtle jibe at Quentin Tarantino
Brian Cox was recently interviewed by The Times of London as part of the promotion of his directorial venture, Glenrothan. He spoke about politics and acting and also gave a not-so-subtle diss at Quentin Tarantino, saying:
“I’m more egalitarian than a lot of directors, the kind who call themselves visionaries. I like to honor the actor’s performance. With a Quentin Tarantino film, what you see is all Quentin Tarantino. That’s not me. I don’t want to do that.”
Is this the first time he critiqued filmmaking style and directorial approach? Not really. Brian Cox has previously opened up about his honest views on acting, especially method acting, to say the least.
He drew criticism from netizens over his views on method acting when he dissed his Succession co-star Jeremy Strong’s method of acting. It’s crap. The thing about Jeremy’s approach is that it works in terms of what comes out the other end. You can’t live in it. Eventually, you get worn out.”
This, honestly, has been a long debate when it comes to actors and their methods and processes. Cox has time and time again voiced his opinions on filmmaking as well as the casting process.
At the Edinburgh International Film Festival held in 2024, the actor was one of the panelists who spoke up about modern-age superhero shows, cinema, and even casting. He openly critiqued the casting process, saying,
“Now, they want every young actor or actress to make their own self-tapes. They’ve got to make it without actually meeting anybody, and sometimes they never even get the f—-g result, because they get ignored. They spend three days making a self-tape, which goes nowhere.”
Glenrothan is available for streaming on Netflix.
