Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will officially end with Season 3, Disney has confirmed. The series serves as a sequel to the massively popular Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place. Selena Gomez originally defined the franchise, and now she is set to help close the story, both behind and in front of the camera.
Fans of the show will be treated to a four-part season ender
Disney will be wrapping up the sequel series that began in 2024. Season 3 will conclude as a special four-part event dropping in summer 2026 on Disney+ and Disney Channel. Selena Gomez will make her directorial debut by helming the season premiere. She will also return onscreen as Alex Russo in multiple episodes.
Season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place unveiled a major twist—Alex is revealed to be Billie Russo’s mother (played by Janice LeAnn Brown). The finale then sees Alex make the ultimate sacrifice, putting herself on the line to protect Billie from her villainous grandfather on her father’s side and disappearing into dark magic.
As for season 3, Billie finds out that the only way to reconnect with her mother is to find her long-lost father. “As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them,” the show’s logline reads as per Variety.
Wizards of Waverly Place, the original series, played a major role in launching Selena Gomez into the spotlight. The show made her a household name, one of Disney’s biggest stars. Therefore, it is quite natural that Gomez shared a deep emotional connection with the show.
“Little did I know that I ended up with everyone I needed to be in my life. I think I felt safe, and that’s a really hard thing for me to feel. I know that you guys love me for me,” Gomez had said about working with her former costars Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise on the show in the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast in 2023.
The sequel shifts focus to the next generation of wizards, rather than centering on Alex Russo. It revolves mostly around Billie Russo, Alex’s daughter, as she figures out her own magical journey. So, Gomez’s presence in front of the camera in the show is very limited.
