Sterling K. Brown reveals truth behind eight-episode TV seasons

Sterling K. Brown said streaming and network TV are two completely different beasts when it comes to profit-making. According to the actor, while the latter relies on advertisements and gets more money from longer TV seasons, the former earns income from monthly subscriptions.

Therefore, in order to generate more cash, the streaming service would rather produce a few short seasons of different TV series than create one long-running show. According to Brown, there is no need to spend millions on producing 20 episodes of the same TV series if you could use the budget to film eight episodes of multiple TV series.

In addition, Brown claimed that streaming services aim to have constantly “fresh” content in order to attract even more subscribers, which explains why the companies prefer producing new TV series with each premiere rather than prolonging one existing show’s lifetime.

Furthermore, there are virtually no reasons why the trend may change any time soon because fans themselves need to decide that and force the streamer to comply with their wishes. Unfortunately, Brown did not believe that was going to happen.

That is exactly what happens to Paradise, the upcoming TV series starring Sterling K. Brown, who is also an executive producer of the project. Season 2 of the show ended on March 30, with only eight episodes.

Nevertheless, Hulu decided to continue with the storyline and ordered a third, last season. Season 3 of Paradise will start shooting later this month. At first, the series was planned to be a regular political thriller, but, apparently, it took a turn for the weird, introducing time travel and multiverse elements.
