Lord of the Rings fans are pumped for the upcoming film that is scheduled to release in 2027. So far, the cast includes Kate Winslet, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis as Gollum, and Elijah Wood as Frodo, but wait up. Wood also recently confirmed Leo Woodall for the role of Aragorn, and here’s what we know so far!
Leo Woodall to play Aragorn in new LOTR film
Elijah Wood recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz. Horowitz said, “It’s a tough act to play Aragorn, but Leo Woodall, that’s true, right?”
Wood responded by saying, “That is true. That is true. Those are tough boots. That is tough. I can’t imagine. But that’s going to be great.”
In the same podcast, Woods confirmed that Kate Winslet will also star in the upcoming LOTR movie, Hunt for the Gollum, which will be the prequel to the 2001 film LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf while Wood will return as Frodo. Leo Woodall’s role hasn’t been disclosed as of yet, and neither Kate Winslet’s, though some speculate the actress will play Gollum’s grandmother after Daniel RPK’s tweet suggested so.
Leo Woodall, on the other hand, has an impressive filmography as an actor. He recently starred in various roles, his notable ones being One Day, where he played Ambika Mod’s romantic interest.
He also plays the eponymous lead in Netflix’s romantic-comedy series Vladimir opposite Rachel Weisz, which is seemingly quite similar to Fleabag in its bold themes and fourth wall-breaking scenes.
Other than that, Woodall has also starred in White Lotus, where he played the role of Jack in the second season. He also played the lead role in Apple TV+ thriller series Prime Target. Here, the actor is cast as a mathematician who must uncover the conspiracy that potentially threatens his life.
As for Arwen Undomiel’s role, there were major speculations that Anya Taylor-Joy is in talks to play the role of the Elf princess, though none of it has been confirmed as of now.
The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum is scheduled for release in December 2027.
