Weapons isn’t just an award-winning film, so to speak, but the film lives up to its hype. The horror film directed by Zach Cregger won several accolades, and it seems like horror fans would get their fill. This is especially the case with the new update on the film’s prequel, Gladys.
Weapons creators share update on Gladys prequel
As reported by Deadline in an exclusive feature, the Gladys prequel has been greenlit. Zach Cregger is all set to work on the film, and Zach Shields will be the writer behind this project.
It’s a big win for the writers, producers, and showrunners behind Weapons. The movie itself redefined several horror tropes and shifted away from the iron-clad definition of jump scares.
Here, we have Gladys, who presents herself as a solemn yet quirky and eccentric lady who blends in well with society. Little do people realize what she’s actually capable of, and once her true self is unmasked, there’s no going back.
Gladys isn’t just a run-of-the-mill horror villain; she ended up being an icon for many reasons. Her fashion, her style, her quirks, and by the end of it all, her insidiousness are what drive the audience to her.
Right from the get-go, viewers were hooked on this character. Her ability to induce nightmares within people around her, to horrify them, and do so with a certain sense of poise is what stands as one of the most unsettling qualities about her.
Amy Madigan truly outdid herself in her role as Gladys, and it would be such a treat to have her back for the prequel. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Weapons, and honestly, that was a deserved win.
She even spoke to WMagazine about her role as Gladys, saying,” We didn’t want her to be reminiscent of another ‘scary’ antagonist in a film. She is quite striking, and she is fascinating. I found out that people really like Gladys. They want to hang out with her.”
Weapons is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
