Age of Attraction stars Theresa DeMaria and John Merill did an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The reporter asked both of them about the show’s concept of how love is stronger than an age gap, to which Theresa replied, saying:
John seemed very comfortable with the fact that I was 54, which was very strange to me. I will just say that. Umm. When I obviously, you see my reaction, when I found out what his age is, because I never in a million years would have thought he was that young. So yeah. So there’s that.
DeMarie was concerned about public judgment and opinion affecting the relationship. It was on many occasions that the age gap affected the pair’s relationship, and she even admitted to this in interviews.
Not only that, many netizens blamed her in this case, saying Merill was too good for her and that he apparently dodged a bullet. Others, however, supported Theresa’s opinion.
Meanwhile, John Merrill addressed his thoughts on the breakup as well. He shared how Theresa’s insecurity ultimately shaped the relationship and how her uneasiness about the age gap ultimately led to both of them calling it quits.
“Unfortunately, the age did impact it at the end. I figured you know it’s not a big deal unless she makes it a big deal. We dated for like 6 months after the show, and just being out in public, it just wore on her, and that’s what ended up breaking us up. I appreciated our connection. I appreciated how she made me feel in such a chaotic environment that we’ve all experienced, and I’m happy you know I took the leap.“
Theresa DeMarie and John Merill have a significant age gap of 27 years. They dated for 6 months until their breakup in March 2026.
