Ghostface is officially not going anywhere. A new update has confirmed that Scream 8 is now in the works, with Spyglass moving ahead on another sequel after Scream 7 became the highest-grossing film in the franchise. It is still early, but the studio has now made its next move clear
Spilling all the tea regarding ‘Scream 8’
According to a new report, Spyglass has hired Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to write Scream 8. The sisters are best known for their work on Poker Face, Fringe, Suits, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Prodigal Son, and they are now stepping in as the new writing team for the next chapter of the slasher series.
It is a major development because it officially confirms the franchise is moving forward after the success of Scream 7.
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream and several later installments before directing Scream 7, is not returning to write the eighth movie.
That makes this one of the more notable handoffs in the franchise, especially since Lilla and Nora Zuckerman will become the first women to write a Scream film. For a series that has always had a very specific voice, that change alone is enough to get fans curious.
It also helps that the timing makes complete sense. Scream 7 has been a huge win at the box office, with reports saying it has passed $200 million globally and is the biggest movie in the franchise.
Once that happened, an eighth film was basically inevitable. Horror franchises do not exactly believe in graceful exits, and Scream has now proven it still knows how to bring audiences back.
There had already been hints that another sequel was being discussed before this update became official. Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell had both previously discussed ideas for Scream 8, which made it pretty clear that the team was not treating Scream 7 as the end of the road.
This latest move just turns all of that speculation into something real.
For now, there is still no release date, no cast announcements, and no plot details. The studio is clearly still in the early stages, so fans should not expect Ghostface to start dialing numbers just yet.
But the main takeaway is simple. Scream 8 is happening, it has a new writing team, and the franchise has no interest in slowing down now that it is back on top.
