The upcoming film Scandalous! starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Colman Domingo, has become the center of controversy. The film will explore the real-life 1950s romance between actress Kim Novak and musical legend Sammy Davis Jr. Now, Novak has raised concerns regarding the casting of Sweeney in the film.

Novak believes the film could be a misrepresentation of their relationship

In the film, Sweeney will play the romantic lead opposite David Jonsson, who will portray the role of Davis Jr. However, Novak has fired shots at Sweeney, stating that she shouldn’t have gotten the role in the first place. In an interview with The Times of London, she highlighted that her casting in the movie is “totally wrong.

Novak stated that Sweeney is overly s——– in the media, and she is sure that the emphasis would be on the s—— component in the film, rather than the emotional and social complexities surrounding their relationship.

“There’s no way it wouldn’t be a s—– relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time. She was totally wrong to play me,” the actress said, adding, “She sticks out so much above the waist.”

The Hollywood veteran noted that their romantic relationship grew out of interests they shared in common. She insisted that if it were up to her, she would never have approved the project. Safe to say, there is an underlying fear in her that the film could depict a deeply emotional relationship as something lustful and sensational.

Meanwhile, Sweeney has not responded to Novak’s comments as yet, but she had stated earlier that she was honored to be part of this project. “I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image,” she remarked, adding, “And I think that for me, I relate to it in a lot of different ways.

Novak’s and Davis Jr.’s relationship became controversial once it was publicized, and it ended abruptly due to racial tensions and studio pressure. The duo met and hit it off on the sets of “The Steve Allen Show” in 1956, following which they started spending time together frequently, even going on vacations. But a Chicago columnist’s published account of their connection in 1958 abruptly ended their relationship, as interracial couples were not looked at fondly by American society during that time.
