The Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man dropped on Netflix on March 20, 2026, and it is already clear that Tommy Shelby’s story is over. What is not over is the franchise. The sequel series has started filming, and there is already a lot to talk about.

Duke Shelby Is Taking the Wheel and Barry Keoghan May Come With Him

Cameras started rolling on the sequel series on March 4 and 5 in Stoke-on-Trent before the full production moved to Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.

Two seasons, six episodes each, set in Britain in 1953. That is over a decade after The Immortal Man and a completely different world. Post-war Birmingham is rebuilding itself, and the Shelby family is right in the middle of the fight to control that reconstruction. Steven Knight confirmed the big question fans had after the movie.

Duke Shelby, played by Barry Keoghan in The Immortal Man, will feature in the sequel series. “The son character will feature in what goes forward. So, it’s a continuation of the Shelby family story, really,” Knight told SlashFilm.

He was careful about the wording, though. “Will feature” is not the same as lead. It could be a cameo to pass the torch. Could be a full starring role. Knight is not saying, and he does not have to say yet.

What is clear is that this is a new generation’s show. Knight said it in his statement when the series was announced. “The new generation of Shelbys has taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.” Cillian Murphy is done. Tommy is dead.

The story goes on without him, though Murphy is staying on as executive producer. The full cast has not been announced.

Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright were spotted in set images from the Stoke-on-Trent shoot. No character details confirmed yet.

Netflix and BBC both ordered the two seasons together, which means there is no pilot anxiety here. The whole thing is already greenlit and filming. A mid to late 2027 premiere is the expected window based on the production timeline.

Knight is one of the busiest writers working right now. House of Guinness on Netflix. A Thousand Blows on Hulu. He is writing the Bond 26 script for Denis Villeneuve.

And yet Peaky Blinders keeps getting more of him. Birmingham is clearly not done with Steven Knight either.
