Harry Potter TV series’ trailer was released, and it’s become the talk of the town. The upcoming series has fans waiting with bated breath, and even the actors are looking forward to it. Andrew Garfield, in particular, praised the series while throwing subtle shade at J.K. Rowling

Andrew Garfield’s subtle diss at JK Rowling

Andrew Garfield was interviewed by Olivia Marks from Hits Radio. He talked about his roles in The Social Network, Bojack Horseman, and so on. It was in the same interview that he shed light on the upcoming show, saying:

“Daniel Radcliffe is really good in the ‘Harry Potter’ films; the films are really good. I know it’s controversial and we shouldn’t be putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislations right now, through… she who shall remain nameless, […] but there are so many beautiful artists that worked on those films.”

Garfield subtly dissed Rowling without actually taking her name. This got internet fans thinking who he might actually be referring to. His views had netizens divided for the most part.

To give context, J.K Rowling has been in the face of controversy for her views on transgender people. It drew massive criticism from Harry Potter fans and even actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne.

John Lithgow, who plays Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming series, also previously criticized Rowling for her stance. He spoke to The New Yorker, where he discussed the series and how alluring and enchanting the world of Harry Potter truly is.

When asked about his views on Rowling’s stance, he condemned it. People suggested he walk away from his role as Dumbledore, but he chose not to do so. “The reasons to do it were much, much stronger than the reasons to protest against what Rowling has done and said. I do disagree with much of it, much of it I think has been twisted and misrepresented, and she has doubled down on it at her own cost.”

Harry Potter will premiere on 25th December 2026.
