It’s good news for the Spider-Verse fans because this year is packed with Spider-Man movies and a live-action series. To make it even better, Andrew Garfield pitched his suggestion for Emma Stone’s role in a Spider-Gwen movie, and here’s how it went.
Andrew Garfield pitches Emma Stone in Spider-Gwen film
Recently, Andrew Garfield spoke to Hits Radio UK about a possible Spider-Gwen movie. He suggested Emma Stone star in the film, saying, “Yeah, I mean, why not? Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Yeah, I think she could do anything. She’s such an incredible actor.”
Emma Stone recently starred in Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy film Bugonia. She has previously worked with the director on multiple films, including Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness, and The Favorite.
Her collaboration with Lanthimos underlined her excellence and brilliance as a multifaceted actress. She also won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things in 2024. The actress, however, is widely celebrated for her role as Gwen Stacy.
She played the role of Peter Parker’s love interest in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man. It was during this film that both Stone and Garfield started dating until their amicable breakup in 2015.
Both actors have remained friends up until now, and Garfield has even praised her time and time again. This is especially the case with Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he admitted that Zendaya’s performance reminded him of Emma Stone.
In an exclusive 2022 interview with Variety, Garfield hailed Zendaya’s performance, saying, “The spirit that Zendaya brings to MJ is so heartfelt and pure and loving. Emma [Stone] brought that similar, unique spirit to Gwen [Stacy].”
It is unclear whether there’s a live-action Spider-Gwen movie starring Emma Stone, but it would be interesting to see how it pans out. There is, however, an animated movie currently in development at Sony Pictures. It was confirmed in February 2026 that the Spider-Punk and Spider-Punk spin-offs are currently in production.
There’s also Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will release on 20th July, so it’s a power-packed year for Spidey fans!
