Frankie Muniz reveals intense filming grind for Malcolm in the Middle revival

Frankie Muniz recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about what it was like to film the revival of “Malcolm in the Middle,” and he revealed how his NASCAR career affected the filming of the show. He explained how he and the crew had to make a major change in the filming routine. Instead of filming from Monday through Friday, they now film from Sunday through Thursday so he could participate in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

I would film Sunday through Wednesday, fly Thursday, race Friday, and fly back Saturday. It was exhausting,” Muniz said. He went on to explain that he had no complaints and was grateful to be able to film the show.

For the fans, it’s a new dimension to the revival. Muniz is not just reprising his famous character; he’s doing it while actively pursuing a professional racing career. He gave thanks to the production team, along with his co-stars such as Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, for being accommodating enough to allow him to pursue his racing career.

Muniz also went on to talk about his growth as a professional actor. Unlike his earlier days on the show, Muniz now puts more thought into his acting roles. He said that his approach to acting has become more enjoyable with time.

The revival, titled Life’s Still Unfair, follows the story of Malcolm who is now a father with a life full of chaos. The majority of the main characters are reprising their roles, with the exception being Dewey, who is being played by a new actor.

As the show is set to premiere in April 2026, Muniz’s story serves to show just how much work has gone into making this revival a reality. For the fans, it’s a reminder that things have changed so much both on and off the screen.
